It’s been six years since I’ve been back here. There’s a conflict of emotion when I visit the zoo. I am saddened by thoughts of these creatures being confined in a small area, surrounded by cackling, misguided voyeurs. At the same time, I’m fascinated by their expression and simplicity. They seem more intelligent and disciplined than us. It’s a contrast of surroundings. But I just believe we bore them. I manage to block out the human pollution during my visits here. I envy these poor creatures, but I also pity them. At least they will never know the true dangers of Mother Nature… or poaching. We are only visitors here. We are only voyeurs to them.
