The MEMORY OF SREBRENICA…

Today marked the 20th anniversary of the massacre of thousands of Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica and the world’s unwillingness to officially recognize it as genocide. A handful of Bosniaks living in Chicago held a peaceful rally downtown. I began speaking with a very friendly man named Aldin (1st picture below) as we walked with the group to Daley Plaza. We spoke of his experience fleeing in ’93, politics, and the future. After having lived in Bosnia for a time, it became a part of me. I became engulfed in the history and culture and have a deep respect for Bosniaks and their way of life.
