Google Maps started off my year by giving me a little gift. It was a large box containing a framed area map of Chicago with push pins, labels, and a patch. This is something they apparently send to Local Guides on Google Maps that contribute a lot, but how many received this, I’m not sure. Pretty damn cool nonetheless.
This has been an ongoing experiment for just two years now. The view count of all my photos is over 75 million at this point, with the most viewed being a photo of Wrigley Field that has currently been viewed over 5 million times. It will be interesting to see how high these numbers will go, considering I’ve only shot 438 of the 7,000 restaurants in Chicago. At the current rate, it will take roughly 8-10 years to reach 1 billion views on Google Maps.
